ACT Process

The Therapy Process

Seligman et al (2021), simplified the Six Components of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy process into three easy steps, through the acronym A.C.T.:

A: Accepting and embracing thoughts and feelings (pain and/or anxiety)

C: Choose a direction in life

T: Take steps

This acronym highlights the start and ending of the process. Clients are able to be mindful of their inner moods and experiences and articulate them verbally without experiential avoidance. In the end, client and therapist review gains, how to maintain, and create a plan of what to do in the event of a relapse.
